Bryan Reynolds has spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career in the Steel City. But as Pittsburgh Pirates playoff chances recede, it seems there’s a decent chance that the team could deal the outfielder ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
So PennStakes.com came up with some hypothetical odds on which team the veteran of 880 games in the majors will play for by then.
Team | Odds | Percent Chance |
Stay With Pittsburgh Pirates | +125 | 44.4% |
Kansas City Royals | +1100 | 8.3% |
Philadelphia Phillies | +1100 | 8.3% |
Cleveland Guardians | +1500 | 6.3% |
Detroit Tigers | +1500 | 6.3% |
Seattle Mariners | +1600 | 5.9% |
Atlanta Braves | +1800 | 5.3% |
Cincinnati Reds | +1800 | 5.3% |
The Field | +900 | 10.0% |
We have the Pirates holding a sizeable lead in the race to keep the 30-year-old Baltimore native. But there are other teams to consider, from the site that bring you the best PA sports betting promos.
Reynolds has an eight-year, $106.750 million contract and a no-trade clause that includes teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Yankees, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays. So it seems that the odds of Pittsburgh moving its veteran outfielder are slim at best.
That’s why we’re giving the Pirates +125 odds of keeping Reynolds in town through the end of the 2025 MLB season. The last-place team in the National League Central sits well ahead of potential trade partners such as the Kansas City Royals and Philadelphia Phillies. We give both of those teams an 8.3% chance to acquire Reynolds; at Pennsylvania sportsbooks, that implied probability would equate to +1100 odds.
Longshots to get Reynolds include the Detroit Tigers (+1500), Seattle Mariners (+1600), Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds (+1800 each). The seventh-year veteran out of Vanderbilt looks set to finish out the year as a member of the Pirates organization.
Given that reality, it seems likely that Reynolds will have ample time to climb up the Pirates’ all-time offensive WAR rankings. He is currently in 31st position at 20.8, according to the Wins Above Replacement calculations at Baseball-Reference.com as of July 7. See Andrew Heaney trade odds for our outlook on another player that Pittsburgh might think about moving before the trade deadline.
For now, while Reynolds waits to find out what his next stop on his MLB journey will be, the Pirates will continue wading through turbulent waters at the confluence of Pittsburgh’s famed three rivers. The Pirates are 17 games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, with the third-worst winning percentage in the 15-team Senior Circuit, at .413 (a 38-54 mark).
