When Have Eagles Last Finished Season So Poorly?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Everybody in the City of Brotherly Love and surrounding neighborhoods keep talking about the epic Philadelphia Eagles’ end-of-season collapse. Fans of the team - and PA sportsbooks that kept making the Birds weekly favorites - are still trying to figure it out.

The Eagles’ fate was sealed by a 32-9 loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday in the NFC Wild-Card Playoff Round. The Eagles compiled a league-best 10-1 record over the first three months of the season and then felt the wintery blast - losing six of their last seven games, culminating with their early playoff exit.

The fate of coach Nick Sirianni remains in the balance, with team owner Jeff Lurie expected to meet with the third-year head coach Friday.

Utilizing Pro-Reference-Football.com, PennStakes.com examined how long it has been since the Eagles lost five of their last six games. Turns out, it wasn’t too long ago. Here is a look at how the Eagles fared in their last six games, dating back to their Super Bowl win following the 2017 season:

Analyzing Recent Eagles Finishes

In most recent seasons the Eagles were two games or better than .500 in their final six games, with their best record of 5-1 in 2018.  However, in 2020, Philadelphia also went 1-5. The consequences: Quarterback Carson Wentz and head coach Doug Pederson left the team.

The following season, Sirianni took over as coach and Jalen Hurts as quarterback. That duo led the Eagles to last season’s Super Bowl, where they came very close to knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, the Eagles are on the outside looking in. In the NFC in the division round this weekend, BetMGM Sportsbook PA has the San Francisco 49ers as a 9.5-point and -300 moneyline favorite over the Green Bay Packers Saturday night and the Detroit Lions a 6.5-point and -275 moneyline pick over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday.

Will more changes be made by the Eagles in the offseason? All of Philadelphia is anxiously awaiting the Eagles’ next moves and we could know as soon as later today.
