Philly Staple Chickie’s and Pete’s Opens Latest Location at Reno Casino
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

The neighborhood crews from Northeast Philadelphia, South Philly and really folks from all over town might be able to say, if they’re old enough, that they can remember when the sports restaurant with the tasty Crabfries was their own, in-the-know spot.

Of course, that’s been over for a long time now. Chickie’s & Pete’s escaped the gravitational pull of the Delaware Valley quite a while ago and now there’s still another outpost — this time all the way out in Reno, Nevada.

Chickie’s and Pete’s already has a solid reputation in Pennsylvania sports betting.

Chickie’s and Pete’s Second Nevada Location

The Reno Chickie’s & Pete’s opened Sunday in the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.

That restaurant will be the second Chickie’s & Pete’s to cross the Continental Divide. The first is at the SAHARA Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.

The restaurant group reportedly now has 20 locations. The original is in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia in what was a neighborhood taproom. Most of the places are in and around Philadelphia, such as the popular one in the 1500 block of Packer Avenue in South Philly, not far from the where the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers all play.

Besides the two Chickie’s and Pete’s in Nevada casinos, they’re in a couple of casinos closer to homebase in Bucks County, Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania BetParx Sportsbook) and Atlantic City (Tropicana). If you are wanting to play online casinos in Philly, there are plenty options.

Natural First for Restaurant

In the land of Pennsylvania sporting betting apps, Chickie’s and Pete’s became a part of wagering history in February.

That's when BetParx Sportsbook opened in a Chicke's and Pete's in Malvern. That is believed to be a first in the nation sportsbook in a stand-alone restaurant.

The “Original” is at 4010 Robbins Avenue, at what Philadelphians call a “tappie.” The history on the website tells the tale that “in 1977, Peter and Henrietta Ciarrocchi bought the Robbins Avenue taproom in the Mayfair neighborhood of Philadelphia,” and a decade later, a “brotherly brawl over mom’s unique gravy at 4 a.m., in the Ciarrocchi household, led to what is now the unique Chickie’s & Pete’s zesty cuisine.”

However that worked itself out, the results are a restaurant mini-empire in which Philadelphia’s sports bar cuisine — the trademark Crabfries, cheesesteaks, mussels in red and white sauce, and all — has been now exported to an eager dining public in the wilds of Northern Nevada.

And to answer the question, “What exactly are Crabfries?” Chickie’s & Pete’s provides the answer: “A Philadelphia staple since 1977, Chickie’s & Pete’s world famous Crabfries are crinkle-cut French fries sprinkled with a secret blend of crabby spices and served with its one-of-a-kind White Creamy Cheese Sauce for dipping.”

So, there you are. Mangia.
