Penn National Gaming will open the Hollywood Casino York on Aug. 12, the company announced Monday.

Construction of the single-floor, Category 4-casino (“mini-casino”) is continuing at the York Galleria Mall in Springettsbury Township. It is located where the former Sears store used to be at the mall. The casino received approval in June for table games from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The $120 million facility will be nearly 80,000 square feet and feature almost 500 slot machines and 24 live traditional dealer table games with the room to accommodate up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games. There will also be 10 electronic wagering terminals on-site including blackjack, craps, mini-baccarat and roulette.

Hollywood Casino York will also offer a Barstool Sportsbook for PA sports betting. In May, Barstool launched its online casino app in the state.

Penn National Gaming is planning for a noon opening on Aug. 12 pending final regulatory approvals, a news release said. The casino will be Penn National’s third facility in Pennsylvania, joining Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville and The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington. A fourth property, Hollywood Casino Morgantown, is scheduled to open later this year, the release said.

“The countdown to our grand opening begins today,” Ruben Warren, vice president and general manager for Hollywood Casino York, said in the release. “We’re very excited to soon welcome patrons to this beautiful new property, where they’ll be able to experience premier gaming, dining and entertainment.”

Invitation-Only Test Days

Before the grand opening, Penn National said it will have two invitation-only test days, with gaming proceeds going to charitable organizations in the area, including York County Veterans Outreach, York County Food Bank, Mr. Sandy’s Veterans Helping Hand and local VFWs and American Legion posts, the release said. You can check out PA online casinos before the opening.

“We are thrilled to be supporting the work of these incredible organizations in York County,” Warren said. “Penn National is committed to being actively engaged in the community and partnering with worthwhile groups to assist those in need.”

In the release on Monday, Penn National said career opportunities are still available at Hollywood Casino York. A career center is open adjacent to the casino.
