Pa. Sports Betting: Taking a Look at Flyers in NHL Futures Market

By Lou Monaco

As the Pennsylvania sports betting fans get ready to watch the Philadelphia Flyers start the second half of the NHL regular season Wednesday at home against the Detroit Red Wings, they know at least one of their players shined during the NHL All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas.

Claude Giroux, 34, the Flyers’ long-time captain, scored two goals for the Metropolitan Division to capture NHL Most Valuable Player honors in a 5-3 victory over the Central Division on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. Giroux also had recorded two points with one goal and an assist) during the Metropolitan Division's 6-4 victory over the Pacific Division earlier in the evening in the league’s three-on-three format.

Giroux, who also was named Metropolitan Division captain with Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals out because of COVID-19 protocols, became the third Flyer to ever win an All-Star Game MVP, joining Reggie Leach (1980) and Wayne Simmonds (2017).

Maybe the Giroux magic over the weekend can provide a spark to a team that desperately needs it as it returns to the ice this week.

How Sportsbooks Rate Flyers

Let’s check in with two Pennsylvania mobile sports betting platforms to see what the Flyers’ future odds are among bettors in the Keystone State. (PennStakes.com has a handy list of the most updated Pennsylvania sportsbook promo codes.

The Flyers (15-22-8) are tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division with the New York Islanders at 38 points. They have won two consecutive games entering Wednesday’s nightcap with the Red Wings. That is about as encouraging as it gets for a team that posted a dubious franchise record earlier this season by losing 13 games in a row.

On DraftKings, the Flyers are +3500 to even make the postseason, with 75% of the handle and 93% of the bets taken. They are at longer odds to win the Eastern Conference at a whopping +13000 with just 3% of the handle and 5% of the bets in.

Winning the Stanley Cup is out there at +30000 with 3% of the handle and 2% of the bets.

On BetMGM Sportsbook, the Flyers had opening odds to win the Eastern Conference at +1600 before the regular season. That number has now jumped to +15000 with 4.7% of the tickets and 4.1% of the handle.

To win the Stanley Cup playoffs on BetMGM, the Flyers were at +3000 before the season and are now listed at +30000 with 1.9% of the tickets and 1.7% of the handle.

One game at a time, Philadelphia, one game at a time.
