PA Gaming Revenue Holds Steady in May

In May, Pennsylvania had a slight gain in gaming revenue over the previous month. The May gaming revenue was $479.38 million, an increase of 0.6% from April ($476.7 million).

For slots, the May retail slots handle was $2.701 billion, down 1.4% from April ($2.739 billion). The May retail slots gross terminal revenue was about $210.86 million, down 1% from April ($213 million).

Regarding interactive slots, meaning PA online slots, the May handle was $2.842 billion, up 2.8% from April ($2.765 billion). The May interactive slots gross revenue was $100.6 million, up 5.2% from a month ago ($95.6 million).

Table Games Down a Little

Turning to table games, the May table games gross revenue was $81.65 million,  down 3.2% from April ($84.37 million).

The May interactive banking tables handle on PA casino apps  was $2.189 billion, down 3.1% from April ($2.260 billion). The May interactive banking tables gross revenue was $37.88 million, down 2.6% from April ($38.87 million).

For May 2023, the total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests in the commonwealth was more than $197.9 million.

Pennsylvania online casinos, of course, are legal, one of just a few states in the U.S., with slow going for additional states.

Sports Betting Handle Down, Revenue Up

In Pennsylvania sports betting, there was dip in handle but an increase in revenue. The May total sports betting handle was about $495.59 million, a drop of 13.4% from April ($572.15 million),  but a slight increase of 0.5% from May 2022 ($493.35 million).

The revenue picture was brighter. The May gross sports betting revenue (taxable) was $41.1 million, a 10.9% jump from April ($37 million). It was also up 17.4% from the same month last year ($35 million).

As usual, mobile sports wagering made up the bulk of the total sports betting handle.  The internet sports wagering handle was about $460.2 million, or about 93% of the total.

State tax revenue generated from sports wagering during May was $13,975,561.
