What Are Pennsylvania’s Favorite Video Games?

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Video games have become so popular that the industry now celebrates two national days of recognition.

National Video Game Day will occur this Saturday, July 8 and National Video Games Day takes place as soon as the kids go back to school on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

So, here in Pennsylvania, what are the favorite video games?

PennStakes.com took a break from covering sports betting and the PA Online Casinos to determine the most popular video games.

We utilized Google Trends to determine the most searched video game franchises by each state and then used Statista’s data on the Top 10 video game franchises in 2022 sales. After completing the trends over the past 12 months (from June 27, 2022, to June 27, 2023), we were able to find results to get the top 5 video game franchises in Pennsylvania.

eSports in PA?

You can go to BetRivers or any other legal sportsbook and place bets on MLB, the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS and much more.

But you can’t bet on eSports in the Keystone State. At least not yet.

Although eSports is not legal in Pennsylvania, legislation to make it so remains in the state legislature for approval.

There are two organized coalitions to advance esports in the state.

The Pennsylvania Esports Coalition is a non-profit 501(c)(6) organization created to advance the development, growth and integrity of esports in Pennsylvania through advocacy, education and promotion of the industry and is comprised of stakeholders from all aspects of the esports industry.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association (PIEA) is one of the first high school governing bodies solely focused on esports programs and clubs in the country.

Founded in 2019, the PIEA is another nonprofit entity established to provide regulatory oversight and competition guidelines for interscholastic esports in the state.
