Pennsylvania’s Ultimate Bucket List Items

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

So much to do, such little time, but what better way to start than on National Bucket List Day, held this year on Wednesday, April 24?

PennStakes.com decided to take a break from PA sportsbooks to see what state residents dream to do before they die.

Starting with a list of top bucket list ideas from BucketList.net, we used Google Trends to see which aspirations ranked the highest, according to search interest score. The search period was between 2004 and present (April 8, 2024). Search interest score is compared to other topics searched.

So . . .

  • What do you want to do?
  • What have you done?
  • What won't you do?

Here are the top items for Keystone State residents:

Tattoo Tops Our List

Tops on the list is to get a tattoo with a search interest score of 61. Many people have thought about doing it but have never acted on it. The good thing is adults can get a tattoo at any age.

Second on the list is get married with a score of 44. Some have found their one and only, some have separated, some remarry. Whatever you do, propose at least once in your lifetime.

A surprising third choice among Pennsylvanians was to visit the Grand Canyon with a score of 41.

Go on a cruise was listed fourth (39). Cruises leave all the time from Philadelphia and in neighboring New Jersey, so there is always an opportunity to book one. Just don’t get seasick.

Rounding out the top five was to learn how to surf (28). Many Pennsylvanians can do this right at the Jersey Shore, so put your mind to it and do it.

Buying a house starts the bottom half of the top 10 with a score of 22. Everybody wants to do this at some point in their lives, but right now, you might be better off renting.

Two items that scare and excite people are skydiving (21) at No. 7 and scuba diving (12) at No. 8.

Tied for ninth at 7 are donating blood and writing a book (7). One is easier than the other, of course.

We all have one life to live. So live and start checking off the boxes, Pennsylvania!
