Nothing sums up the modern age of college football better than two schools located 2,000 miles apart playing each other in a conference game on a Saturday night, with the Penn State Nittany Lions and Oregon Ducks doing just that this weekend.
When the third ranked Nittany Lions and No. 6 Ducks square off inside Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, they’ll have done so hours after ESPN’s CFB pregame show (College GameDay) wrapped up its live show from the contest, with Rece Davis and the gang making their way to Penn State from nine to noon (Eastern time) on Sept. 27.
With all that in mind, the team at PennStakes.com broke down the odds on who will be this week’s guest picker on GameDay, with a pair of Nittany Lion alums leading the way.
Celebrity Guest Picker | Percentage Chance | Odds |

Ty Burrell, Actor & Penn State Alum | 22.2% | +350 |

Our two leading picks to be this week’s guest picker on GameDay attended Penn State, with 54-year-old comedian (and James Franklin doppelganger) Keegan-Michael Key (+300) and Ty Burrell (+350) leading the way to join ESPN’s pregame show on Saturday morning.
Key has been a guest picker four times, making him the second most popular person on the show, celebrity wise, behind Charles Barkley, who has been a guest picker six times in total, while Burrell has been on the program once, doing so on Nov. 6, 2010.
Outside of those two comedic actors, keep an eye on a pair of Penn State coaches, in Katie Schumacher-Cawley (volleyball) and Cael Sanderson (wrestling), with both listed at +1000 to be this week’s guest picker, while MMA fighter and Penn State alum Bo Nickal is next up, at +1250.
Finally, two GameDay longshots include longtime ESPN reporter and Penn State alum Lisa Salters and influencer at the ‘Four-Letter Network’ Katie Feeney, with both women listed at +1500 to join GameDay on Saturday.
Saturday’s GameDay appearance will be the 11th in University Park, dating back to the show’s Aug. 28, 1999, appearance ahead of the Nittany Lions’ 41-7 demolition of No. 4 Arizona, with the most recent appearance being in 2024, when the show came for the school’s Big Ten clash with Ohio State on Nov. 2. Overall, Penn State has gone 5-5 in games that GameDay has appeared at, with victories over Arizona (1999), Ohio State (2005), Michigan (2017 and 2019) and Auburn (2021), to go with losses to Ohio State (2005, 2018, 2020 and 2024) and Iowa in 2009.
This week, oddsmakers from DraftKings Sportsbook Pennsylvania are giving Penn State -175 moneyline odds against the Ducks, with a 3.5-point spread in favor of the hometown Nittany Lions in the sixth matchup between the two programs all time dating back to 1960, with Oregon winning last year’s Big Ten title game over Penn State, 45-37 and beating the Keystone State stalwarts in their lone trip to Beaver Stadium by a 22-14 final score way back on Oct. 3, 1964.
