Online sports gambling customers are getting their first look at the much-hyped ESPN BET PA Sportsbook that launched on Tuesday in the Keystone State and in 16 other jurisdictions.
ESPN BET is the result of a partnership announced in August between Pennsylvania-based gaming company PENN Entertainment and sports media giant ESPN. PENN Entertainment, headquartered in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, has casinos around the country, including in Pennsylvania at the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Essentially, what online sports betting customers will experience is a migration from PENN Entertainment’s previous online sports gaming platform, Barstool, to an ESPN branded one.
In the partnership, nationwide and for Pennsylvania sports betting, PENN Entertainment hopes to benefit from ESPN’s enormous reach through broadcast and digital outlets. ESPN gets an experienced gaming operator that has already been doing business in many jurisdictions.
As an example of how ESPN will blend its sports entertainment offerings with the new online betting platform is the recent rebranding its own sports wagering TV show. What was known as “The Daily Wager” will now be “ESPN BET Live” on your TV screens.
Eagles-Chiefs MNF Game Is Major Boost
In Pennsylvania, and in Philadelphia in particular, there’s an expectation that the next Monday Night Game on Nov. 20 between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs will be an enormous opportunity for ESPN BET. The rebranded new Pennsylvania sportsbooks brand can get in front of millions of sports fans in a glamorous prime-time contest featuring last year’s Super Bowl teams.
Already, computer users who click on ESPN.com for sports news are immediately confronted by an ad for ESPN BET offering promo bonuses for signing up.
For its part, Pennsylvania has been a robust sports gambling market. In September, the total sports betting handle in the state was $726.26 million and the online portion of that handle was about $672.86 million. That action generated more than $36.63 million in monthly revenue.
